Paris to New York by Eugène Atget and Berenice Abbott

Utilizing 1920s Paris and New York as the backdrop for their collaboration, Eugène Atget and Berenice Abbott’s photo series celebrates life in their respective cities. Eugène Atget’s surrealist style of photography offers an eerie and subtly haunting perspective of Paris. Inspired by his techniques, American born Berenice Abbott documented New York in a similar fashion.

Because the exhibit showcases the works side by the side, the viewer can clearly determine the impact of modernization on the architectural landscape of a city. In addition to displaying the work of two artistic greats, the series serves as a tribute to a friendship that overcame boundaries of age and nationality.
