EU prize for literature at The New Delhi World Book Fair 2018

The New Delhi World book Fair (NDWBF) will take place at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on 6 – 7 January 2018. The European Union will be the guest of honor of the NDWBF this year. A rich variety of European books, professional and sectoral forums and seminars, cultural events and literature discussions will be organized at the NDWBF 2018 to promote literary cultural ties between India and the EU as well as people-to-people dialogue.

Through history and translations, there has been an ever-growing link between European and Indian literature and many European countries and publishers attend the NDWBF each year. The European Commission supports the participation of five winning authors of the European Union Prize for Literature to the Book Fair, in cooperation with the Cultural Diplomacy Platform, the EU Delegation in India and local organisations:

• Selja Ahava (Finland)

• Jasmin B. Frelih (Slovenia)

• Osvalds Zebris (Latvia)

• David Machado (Portugal)

The EU Prize for literature recognizes every year exceptional up-and-coming literary talents across Europe. It highlights the wealth of contemporary European literature and sheds light on Europe’s rich cultural and linguistic heritage.

India is one of the top six publishing countries in the world today. The New Delhi Book Fair has a comparable influence to the Frankfurt, London, Warsaw or Paris book fairs and has become one of the major events in the publishing world. Indian publishers stand at a significant crossroad towards the path of growth. The New Delhi Book Fair is thus the occasion to promote reading habits and enhance the book culture, promote exchange and strengthen cooperation and intercultural dialogue. It also offers business opportunities in cultural and creative industries’ sector such as the publishing, translation and editing sectors. The Fair attracts participation from major publishing houses of the globe and opens up a gateway to the publishing and intellectual worlds of South Asia and Europe.
