Taking photographs is not about capturing what the world really looks
like. It’s about capturing the essence of a moment and conveying the
emotion felt when being there. I love the light in this photo for that
reason. It seduces me back to the moment I stood in the woods
examining the private life of this leaf. Des Moines, Iowa 2008 —
